Inspire Me: Retro Storage Made Easy

Retro Kitchen Storage

You can make your own 1950’s style metal storage tins quickly, cheaply and easily using plain tins and retro ice-cream shades of spray paint. These tins are just too pretty to put away in the cupboard.

Step by Step Guide

  1. Wash your tins thoroughly and allow to dry.
  2. Lay out newspaper in a well-ventilated working area.
  3. Use masking tape and newspaper to shield the inside of the container.
  4. Spray with one or two coats of Plasti-kote Super Satin Cameo Pink or Porcelain. Two thin, even coats will give a better finish.
  5. Whilst the paint is still tacky, remove the masking tape. Once the paint is completely dry apply adhesive letters to label each tin.
  6. Spray the tins with a finishing coat of Clear Acrylic for extra protection.
